On April 18-19 by invitation of National Institute of Standards director Y. Azaryan ISO president B. Alyoshin and Russian Federation Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology director G.Elkin were in Armenia with the first official visit.
The visit was aimed to emphasize the importance of standardization at the country’s economic development, as well as to highlight recent successes of Armenia in international standardization arena.
On April 18, Tigran Sargsyan, the prime minister of Republic of Armenia, met with delegation. He expressed satisfaction with cooperation with ISO and thanked Boris Alyoshin for his assistance to Armenia. Tigran Sargsyan and Boris Alyoshin also discussed further bilateral cooperation in the fields of national and international standardization.
The same day Tigran Davtyan, the minister of economy, met
with delegation. During the meeting interlocutors discussed the methods of
harmonization national standards with International (ISO), European (EN) and
Russian (GOST) standards, and the potential of Armenia to participate in
regional standardization process.
After the official meetings B.Alyoshin and G.Elkin attended
the National Institute of Standards where they were introduced the work of the
last years in the standardization area. B.Alyoshin expressed satisfaction with
the level of development of the Institute and noted that ISO will be continuously
support the further development of standardization in developing countries.
On April 19, ISO president visited Yerevan State University,
where he lectured for the students of Department of Economics on the topic of
«Importance of standardization for economic development». The lecture aroused great interest for both
students and faculty. At the end of lecture B.Alyoshin gladly answered all
questions.
Later the delegation visited Genocide Memorial and Museum,
where paid their respects to the victims of genocide.
On the second half of April 19, the delegation took part in
the exclusive award ceremony organized by National Institute of Standards. For
the active participation of development and implementation of standards 20
Armenian organizations received gold awards. The awards were granted by ISO
president B. Alyoshin, Russian Federation Federal Agency on Technical
Regulating and Metrology director G.Elkin, RA Minister of Economy T.Davtyan and
National Institute of Standards director Y.Azaryan.
