Product conformity assessment can be voluntary or obligatory. Voluntary conformity assessment of product   is carried out by certification, and obligatory conformity assessment product  is carried out by the approval of declaration of conformity and certification.

 
The National Institute of Standards CJSC, as a product certification body has been accrediated  since 1994. Last time it was accrediated on December 28, 2009, and accreditation certificate is N AST -001.L-0006-2009, identification mark is A01, which is valid till December 28, 2012.
 
The National Institute of Standards CJSC carries out  the following works within the framework of the accreditation field:

-         product certification,

-         approval and registration of product conformity declaration,

-         recognition and re-execution of foreign certificates.

Standards spesifying the procedures of product conformity assessment:

-         AST 5.3 “Conformity Assessment System. Product certification”.
 

-         AST 5.10  “Conformity Assessment System. Presentation, approval and registration of declaration of conformity”.

Domestic and foreign product conformity assessment is realized by the same forms and schemes. (“Law on Conformity Assessment” of the Republic of Armenia, article 8, part 5).
