The National Institute of Standards is a Closed Joint Stock Company which operates within the system of the Ministry of Economy Development
Works on development and examination of national (AST), interstate (GOST) standards as well as scientific and methodical works in the field of standardization occupy important place in company's activity. The company coordinates activity of standardization technical committees in the Republic of Armenia.
The company has been accredited as a products, services and quality management systems (ISO 9000) certification body, as well as a products certification body within the system of the Russian Federation, carries out conformity assessment works in the mentioned fields and testing of large number of items.
The National Institute of Standards maintains national fund of standards of the Republic of Armenia which contains International (ISO), Interstate (GOST), Regional (EN), Armenian (AST) and other state standards.
Electronic database system of implemented standards enables organizations and persons to obtain normative documents needed for their business.
International cooperation is on of the most important activities of the company. The company is a member body of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) since 1997. Participates in works of ISO 13 technical committees and 17 subcommittees. The company is a partner standardization body (PSB) of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) since 1 January 2007 and participates in works of 3 CEN technical committees: TC 164 (Water supply), TC 234 (Gas supply), TC 340 (Anti-seismic devices). The company participates in works of the Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification operating in the framework of the CIS.
Training and requalification of employees of the republic in the field of standardization, metrology and conformity assessment is carries out in training and methodical center of the company.
